Around 5:00 PM, I opened up NetNewsWire to see this from the Daring Fireball RSS feed:
The sponsor ad is nothing new- what is strange is the sign-on of the MacHeist bundle, released today.
Here's the scoop for those of you who don't read Daring Fireball / haven't read it for long: in December of 2006, John Gruber wrote a lengthy post last year questioning the ethics of the first MacHeist bundle, called The Iniquities of the Selfish. The basic gist of his argument was that the MacHeist team, which served as a team of "managers" for these developers selling their apps in the bundle, was taking too high of a cut from the sales (the backing numbers were interesting as well), and that the developers should have been paid a higher percentage.
So, it does seem odd to see MacHeist advertising running on the site- which makes me think the deal for the supporting developers might finally be fair (I certainly hope that's the case). If it is, I might reconsider a purchase.
